Come tour a small ranch style home subtly decorated in neutral tones for fall!
I like to pretend that fall starts when my kids head back to school, but now it's official! Fall is here and I couldn't be more excited. It's my favorite time of year and I always look forward to the leaves changing colors, cooler evenings, fun fall activities and pumpkin flavored EVERYTHING.
As much as I love the view from our back deck this time of year, the beautiful shades of burnt orange, deep yellow and dark red stops there. I leave the warm tones of fall outside and opt to decorate my home with cool muted tones instead. It still feels like fall, but much more my style.
This year, I decided to keep things simple since I've been on a major cleaning out and decluttering kick. I also didn't want to spend a lot of money on new fall decor, so I used what I had, updated inexpensive Dollar Tree decor and scored a few pieces from an auction to create a simple and neutral fall home. I also teamed up with some talented bloggers (thanks to the help of my friend Kendra from Joy in Our Home), so be sure to check out their beautiful home tours linked at the bottom of this post.
I did swap out the spring florals for hops stems, added old books, chalk painted some old inexpensive faux pumpkins and brought in a cozy black checked throw blanket.
I like the pop of green real and faux plants offer, so I kept out my favorite faux greenery and simply added a neutral pumpkin for a touch of fall
***TIP*** Add a tray to ground your decor to keep it from floating and feeling out of place.
I love having the painted barrister bookcase in our living room. The shelves are so fun to style and a great place to add seasonal decor.
I added a few of my favorite faux green pumpkins (bought from Michael's last year) and painted Dollar Tree floral stems for the perfect simple and neutral touch for fall.
Recently, I swapped the dining room rug with the mudroom rug and I really like the added texture and pattern in this space. It's neutral and has a lot of contrast and I wanted to keep that same feeling with our fall decor.
I brought in Dollar Tree Moscow Mule mugs, painted Dollar Tree pumpkins and my favorite wood acorns that I've had for years.
The only new item I bought for the dining room was a small amber storage canister, which will easily double as bathroom storage when not displayed for fall.
Our bedroom is not a place I normally decorate for the changing seasons, but I do like to add a touch of seasonal decor to my nightstand. A small faux green pumpkin, vintage green books, and an amber bottle with a few fall leaves was just enough.
Our mudroom addition is another place I love to add seasonal decor. Again, I kept it simple with hops stems, old books, faux green pumpkins and an inexpensive $5 Five Below throw blanket.
I couldn't leave out our small kitchen, so I added an amber bottle with eucalyptus that I'm going to call fall decor, ha.
I love the simplicity and neutral tones of our home this fall. I didn't buy a ton of new decor, I didn't spend a lot of money on real pumpkins and I didn't go overboard. But you know what? Our home still feels like fall and it's a place I love to be.
Now that I've shared my home, check out all the beautiuful inspiration from some of my talented blogger friends!

ReplyDeleteKatie, I loved your neutral decor! I'm still trying to figure out colors though. I had a question: where did you find the hops that you decorated with in several places? It looks like it has pine cones on it? Love your blog and your sweet spirit!
ReplyDeleteThank you! The hops were bought from a wholesale company. I bought them for my booth at the vintage barn, but of course had to keep a few for myself :)
