How to make West Elm inspired Bin Pulls

An easy way to make unique West Elm inspired bin pulls!

Yesterday, I shared my HomeGoods table that I altered to look like my favorite West Elm Bin Pull Console table.  I not only loved the iron legs of the West Elm table, but the bin pulls were amazing too.  I knew if I was going to even try to replicate the table, that I had to include the bin pulls.  I searched and searched for similar pulls, but came up empty.  That's when I got the idea to create my own pulls.

HOW TO MAKE CUSTOM BIN PULLS

Sheet metal and tin snips for DIY bin pulls
First, you'll want to figure out the hole distance and how long you need to make your pulls.  The distance of the holes for the West Elm pulls were 5 inches apart, so I made my pulls 6 inches long and tall enough to be able to bend over the top.  I measured, cut the sheet metal with tin snips then bent over the top with my hands until I was happy with the shape.  I would suggest wearing gloves, but if you don't just be very careful since the metal is sharp.
Measure pulls to drill hardware holes
I measured and marked my holes, then used a drill bit the same size as my screws to drill 2 holes.

I then took a very fine metal file to get rid of all the sharp edges.

I gave the pulls a couple thin coats of ORB spray paint and they were done.

I love how these custom West Elm inspired bin pulls turned out.  They totally made the table and cost a fraction of the price of new pulls.

    1. Hi Elaine! They do bend a little, but nothing that's been a problem. I would suggest using a thicker sheet metal though if you are using them for bedroom furniture. I hope that helps :)
