As promised, the Christmas talk is on hold and I'm back sharing one of my favorite kinds of projects, Trash to Treasure makeovers!
It's no surprise that I love thrift shops and looking for good deals. I'm not afraid to tackle making over a piece that's damaged, dated or just plan ugly. Most of the items I buy are ones that the average person wouldn't even give a second glance. They tend to be overlooked and marked down after weeks of not being sold. These are the pieces I buy and love and these are the ones that make the best Trash to Treasure makeovers!
This is my latest purchase that I just could not resist. It's a a nasty old bread box that I snatched for $5.00.
After a good wipe down, I sanded the entire piece then filled the old hardware holes with wood putty.
I gave it a few coats of white chalk paint and was ready to attach the new hardware until.....
the stain started bleeding through the paint. If I even thought this would happen I would have primed the box with Kilz primer first. I could have always primed over the chalk paint, but I decided to finish the piece with a few light coats of spray paint and all was good.
I also spray painted some leftover gold pulls (bought from D. Lawless Hardware) and wooden knobs, which I added to the front of the box.
I'm still organizing my office and it has a long way to go (hello, empty picture frames!), but it's coming together nicely thanks to many thrift store finds, DIY projects and hand me downs.
Are you catching up? Here are the latest office/studio projects.
Stay tuned for more projects to come!
