Inexpensive Tips For Creating The Perfect Outdoor Summer Porch

It's hard to believe that I have yet to decorate our front porch for Spring OR Summer.  The planters are still empty, the porch is still dirty and it's far from welcoming.   In an effort to get motivated I decided to play around and create a pretty summer inspired front porch mood board.

Door / Planters / Lights / Numbers / Rug / Bench / Pillows

I included our exact front door that I absolutely love.  The only problem?  It still has never been painted.  I've painted all the inside of our entry doors with Sherwin-Williams Iron Ore, but I can't decide if I want to do the same with the outside.   The lights are also the same ones that we installed when we added the garage.  It's now time to add a bench, a fun doormat and a splash of color.

ADD A POP OF COLOR:
Revamp a tired entry with a pop of color and immediately change the personality of your entire space.  If you're not feeling brave enough to paint your door a contrasting color, try adding colorful potted plants or throw pillows.  They're easy to change out and a great way to brighten and freshen a space with little money and effort.

KEEP IT SIMPLE:
Don't overthink the space, keep it clean and simple.  Limit your color choices and textures to only a few.

LIGHT THE WAY:
Motion sensing or dusk to dawn lights are the perfect way to welcome guests and keep them safe. Solar lights are great for lighting up walkways or showcasing beautiful plants and flowers.

COORDINATE HARDWARE:
Create a seamless and polished look with matching hardware, lights, house numbers and door knockers.

ADD A PLACE TO SIT:
It doesn't have to be fancy, but a nice place to sit is essential.  If you don't have room for a set of chairs try adding a simple bench.

CLEAR THE WAY:
Trim overgrown plants and bushes and clean the porch of all leaves, cobwebs and dead plants.

FRESHEN UP PAINT:
Paint can go a long way in brightening a space and making it feel new again.  Make sure to repair and scrap off loose or peeling paint and caulk any gaps before applying a fresh new coat.
