HOW TO MAKE FAUX PUMPKINS LOOK REAL
I bought a few inexpensive faux pumpkins from Walmart, paying attention to the shape and not how ridiculous they looked. I would have bought some from the Dollar Store, but I was in Walmart at the time. If you want to save even more money you may want to check your local Dollar Store first.
I gave each pumpkin 2 coats of white chalk paint. I chose white, but I think I'm going to make a few green ones as well.
After the paint was dry I used an X-acto knife to cut out a few of the stems so I could replace them with wood.
I then coated each pumpkin with vintage wood and dry brushed a small amount of brown craft paint into the groves. I let the pumpkins dry then dry brushed another light coat of white chalk paint on the "raised" areas. This creates dimension and gives the pumpkins a realistic look.
Such a great idea! And your photos are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Bre!
DeleteThese are gorgeous! And the pumpkins look amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks Chelsea! It's amazing what a little paint can do :)
DeleteUndoubtedly these pumpkins will last forever. These faux pumpkins are ultimate new addition to the home. Pumpkins in white paint are enhancing the space and looking truly awesome.
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of glue you used to attach the real wood?
ReplyDeleteI actually didn't use glue since the wood is pushed tightly into the foam. Although, if you wanted to use glue hot glue or craft glue would work.
DeleteWow, these are great! They do look much better than the other too bright orange color. And I love how you make the stems. I'm wondering how you affixed them too...I'm assuming some kind of glue.
ReplyDeleteThank you! The stems are simply pushed into the foam. They are long enough and thick enough to stay put :)
Deletethese are great. I usually only see small ones at the dollar store. did you buy the bigger one at walmart?
ReplyDeletethanks
