How to Make a Rustic Wire Photo Hanging

It's time for another Monthly DIY Challenge! This month is all about Mod Podge and if you know me you know I love this stuff. Displaying family photos is one of my favorite ways to personalize our home and keep sweet memories alive. I'm always looking for unique ways to display my favorite photos (Yes, I have a few favorites if you haven't noticed) and this month's challenge was a great opportunity to make rustic wire photo hangings.

SUPPLIES NEEDED TO MAKE PHOTO HANGING

- Mod Podge
- Family photos (I used 8x10)
- Larger paint brush
- Canvas upholstery fabric
- 1/2" x 1/4" wood trim
- Espresso stain
- All purpose adhesive
- 4 eye screws
- Rustic craft wire (I peeled off the outter layer)
- Scissors
- Drill and small drill bit

I have a bolt of neutral canvas upholstery fabric that I was lucky enough to be given for free. My boss was going to use the fabric to reupholster a sofa and ended up not using it and offered it to me. It was a tough decision, but I gladly took it off his hands. Pretty cool, huh?

The fabric ended up being the perfect backdrop for my photos. I applied a thin layer of Mod Podge to the back of each picture, pressed them onto the canvas then applied another layer of Mod Podge over the top.

Now, this is my favorite part!

In order to give my photos the canvas look I cut a small piece of fabric and pressed it over the top of each photo WHILE THE MOD PODGE WAS STILL WET.

Once the Mod Podge was fully dried I trimmed the excess fabric from the top and sides, leaving about a half inch of fabric at the top and bottom of each photo.

Next it was time to figure out how to hang the photos. Instead of making traditional frames I opted to make photo hangings. I cut down thin wood trim pieces, stained and distressed them then added eye hooks for hanging.

Using all purpose glue I glued the wood strips onto the top and bottom of each photo.

I added old rusty wire for hanging and I ended up with the perfect rustic wire photo hangings.

***Tip*** Remove the outer covering of craft wire to reveal perfectly rustic wire.
