Plywood Scraps Turned Distressed Number Tags

Remember the other day when I mentioned how I save on DIY and craft projects and one of those tips was to keep scrap wood?  Well,  I'm back today sharing how I used leftover plywood from my shiplap walls to make distressed number tags.

I can't even tell you how many times this wood has come in handy.  My husband is always asking when I'm going to get rid of the pallets and wood in the garage and my answer is always, "I'm saving it for a project." Sometimes it takes me longer to actually DO the project, but I eventually get something done.

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED

- 1/4" plywood scraps (or pre cut tags from a craft store if you want to make this project easier)

- White chalk paint

- Sandpaper

- 8 #14S flat washers

- Black spray paint 

- Rapid fuse all purpose adhesive

-Vinyl numbers
- Drill and large drill bit

- Jute

HOW TO MAKE SCRAP WOOD DISTRESSED NUMBER TAGS

Cut pieces of scrap wood down to the size you want your tags.  I made mine about 2" x 4 3/4".

Once the tags are cut you'll want to lightly sand each one to get rid of any rough edges. Then paint a coat of white chalk paint on the front and back of each tag. 

While your tags are drying spray paint 8 washers with black spray paint. 

After the tags are dry sand and distress your tags then add vinyl numbers. 

Use a large drill bit to drill holes in the top of each tags.

Glue on spray painted washers and attach jute for hanging.

***Tip*** if you want a more distressed look you can either stain your wood before painting or very lightly dry brush espresso stain around the edges like I did.

Making your own distressed number tags is the perfect way to use up scrap wood AND stay organized.  The best part is my tags ended up costing absolutely nothing thanks to my craft supply hoarding.
