An easy tutorial for creating an inexpensive wood bead garland with tassels!
Who doesn't love a quick, easy and affordable farmhouse craft project?
A few years ago my grandmother was downsizing and I was lucky enough to receive a bunch of her unused craft supplies. One of the many items I received was a huge assortment of wood craft beads. I'm talking large beads, small beads, round beads and everything in between. Determined not to let them go to waste, I decided to make a simple DIY wood garland, but I didn't want to make just any wood garland. I wanted to make something a little different, so I added simple jute tassels.
This is seriously the easiest craft project I have ever made. You only need 3 supplies, it takes less than 10 minutes to make and the total cost is less than $5.00. It doesn't get any easier or cheaper than that!

HOW TO MAKE A WOOD BEAD GARLAND WITH TASSELS
I started by wrapping jute around the palm of my hand about 15 times.
Once I was happy with the thickness of my tassels I took another piece of jute and tied it around the top of my tassel (about a 1/4 inch from the top), knotting it off.
Now that my tassel was done I cut a long piece of jute (a little longer than the length you want your garland) and threaded it through the top of my tassel, knotting off the end.Once everything was secure I started adding beads to my garland, threading the knotted off end through the beads as well.
When I was happy with the length of the garland I made another tassel, adding it to the end.
I wasn't kidding when I said this was the easiest and most inexpensive craft project I've ever made. It's also a great versatile decor piece that I use throughout my entire home.
Great idea! We are seeing these beads & tassels everywhere. I like the jute tassel much better!. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletethat is so dang cute katie love it xx
ReplyDeleteI can't find beads like that anywhere do have any ideas for me. I have already been to hobby lobby ,walmart and micheals.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I'm surprised you haven't been able to find them. I usually buy all my wooden craft supplies at Hobby Lobby or Michaels. They will be in the bare wood section and not with the beads for jewelry making. You can also find them on Amazon (I linked to them above). Good luck!
DeleteMisty Warren - She has a link if you click on the beads above it takes you to Amazon to the beads.
DeleteJust made this! I am thrilled with how it turned out. Thanks for your excellent directions and pictures I had some leftover beads from a family member but I supplemented with a package that I bought today from Michael's in the wood department.
ReplyDeleteAre the brads in the pictures 10mm? (the same size in the link)
ReplyDeleteI ordered the ones she linked to and they are super small. :(
DeleteI'm sorry guys. I updated the link, so it should now be for the correct beads.

ReplyDeleteHow long is your strand? My 10mm beads are smaller than yours, so it's taking more. Don't see a length measure in post. I know I can make it any length I'd like, would be helpful though to know how long yours is. Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteWhat is the correct size beads used? I ordered from your link and 10mm is way smaller.
ReplyDeleteHi- I'm so sorry. I updated the link, so it should now be for the correct beads.
DeleteKatie, this is still defaulting to the 6mm beads. I'm assuming you used the 16mm? I love this, and I'm definitely going to make a strand! ;-)
ReplyDeleteYes. You will want to use 16mm. You can pick what size you want though.
DeleteI have made three of these beaded garlands now! I made one for each of my daughters and one for myself. I love the look when decorating with them. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteAm I missing something? You say $5 DIY but the beads themselves in the link are $8.99?
ReplyDeleteI mentioned that I only used about 60 beads out of the 100. Also, I already had the beads on hand and was just linking to the type of beads I used. You may be able to find them cheaper at Walmart, the Dollar Tree and other affordable craft stores.
