Happy Monday! So, I totally goofed and planned my Dollar Store DIY makeover for today, but it's really not the first Monday of the month. Whoops! If you are new to my Dollar Store DIY series, I share a Dollar Store upcycle the first Monday of every month. (If you wanna play catch up you can find all my past projects here.) This month, it looks like you're getting a Dollar Store makeover a week early :)
For this month's project, I took inspiration from my friend Leigh Ann from Houseologie (and her beautiful tea pot makeover) and updated a clear Dollar Tree vase into a fun succulent planter. The best part is, if you are a regular DIY'er you should have all the supplies needed for this project right at home.

- Dollar Tree clear glass vase (check your local thrift stores too)
- Krylon gloss white spray paint
- Black gloss paint marker
- Water based poly
- Succulents (from the Dollar Tree!)
Thankfully, the day I worked on this project it was in the mid 70's and overcast, the perfect day for spray painting! I pulled out my spray shelter, grabbed my supplies and gave the clear vase multiple light coats of spray paint.
After I had good coverage I let my vase dry a couple hours before bringing it inside to start on the dots.
Using a black paint marker I started making dots around the vase. They don't have to be even and they don't have to be perfect. Just start making dots and work your way around and down the vase. How easy is that???
When I was done adding my dots I sealed the vase with clear water based poly.
A little spray paint and paint pen can go a long way when it comes to updating inexpensive Dollar Tree vases. Looking for something bigger, more square? Dollar Tree has a variety of vases that would also be perfect for this black and white modern makeover.

I finished it off with rocks and faux succulents, also from Dollar Tree. You could also use real succulents, but make sure you still put rocks in the bottom to help with drainage since there is no hole in the bottom of the vase.
I'd say this was another successful Dollar Tree makeover. What do you think?
What a fabulous idea, I love it!
ReplyDeleteExceptionally fascinating web journal. Alot of websites I see nowadays don't generally give anything that I'm occupied with, however I'm most definately keen on this one. Recently believed that I would post and let you know. www.bonsaitreegardener.net
