Easy Wood Ornament Decor From Dollar Tree

Add a bit of holiday cheer to your walls with this inexpensive wood ornament decor from Dollar Tree.

First, I want to thank you for all your excitement and words of encouragement over yesterday's post.  It truly blew me away and I am so incredibly lucky to have such amazing reader's and friends.

I was hoping to get this project shared sooner in case any of you wanted to grab the same ornament from Dollar Tree, but I just have way too many holiday projects to share and not enough time to share them.  I'm hoping Dollar Tree still has some of the same oversized wood ornaments in stock.   If not, you can check out my other Dollar Tree makeovers for more inspiration and project ideas. 

This is such a cute and simple project that would be perfect for dressing up your door or walls for the holidays.  It's also super affordable and nearly free if you have a nice stash of craft supplies.

HOW TO UPDATE AN OVERSIZED DOLLAR TREE ORNAMENT FOR DECOR

I started with one of these wood ornaments that I picked up from Dollar Tree a few weeks ago.  They had a few different designs and although they are cute as is, they just weren't MY style.  I wanted something neutral and simple and that's exactly how I updated mine.

The front of the ornament has spots with glitter, so I decided instead of sanding it smooth that I would just update the back and make it double sided.

I used needle nose pliers to remove the top of the ornament then gave it two coats of chalk paint.

While the chalk paint was still wet I sprinkled a generous amount of diamond dust over the entire ornament and let it dry.

After shaking off the excess I embellished it a bit with some faux greenery and berries.

It makes such a great addition to our Christmas mudroom and I love the fact that the total cost of the project was a mere $1.06.

It's hard to tell in pictures, but the diamond dust adds just the right amount of sparkle to make it interesting.

Updating this Dollar Tree ornament wall decor was such a fun and inexpensive project that took all of five minutes (less drying time) and pennies to make.
