Adding board and batten is the easiest and most inexpensive way to add interest to a basic basement staircase! THE BASEMENT BOARD AND BATTEN STAIRCASE IS DONE!!! You guys, I can't even tell you how good it feels to type those words. Refinishing our basement stairs and adding board and batten to the walls has been a project I've wanted to do ever since moving into our home over 12 years ago. It's also been one of those projects that I just could not get motivated to finish. I was so unmotivated that I decided to proclaim on Instagram (to hold myself accountable) that I was giving myself two weeks to complete this half-finished project. I'm happy to report that I not only finished the molding, but I did it in less than two weeks and it looks amazing. ...

How to Make Vintage Inspired Foam Board Signs
The easiest way to make affordable vintage inspired farmhouse signs without fancy cutting machines. Happy Monday! I hope you had an amazing weekend. I finished a few loooong overdue DIY projects and it feels so good to finally have them complete. My dad also came over and drywalled the doorway between the kitchen and mudroom addition, making it a super successful weekend. Since I'm sure you guys don't want to be bothered with how to frame a doorway with drywall and corner bead, I'll share a super easy DIY farmhouse sign instead. No special cutting machines required. Just a few inexpensive products and a little of your time. ONE / TWO / THREE / FOUR ...

An Easy Way to Make Affordable Throw Pillows
The easiest and most affordable way to create custom textured throw pillows. The other week, my daughter asked me to take her to Five Below so she could use a gift card. As she wandered around looking at earrings and squishies I eyed up the home decor, glancing up and down the aisles. I wasn't really seeing anything, but then down on a bottom shelf, I spotted a rolled up 3'x5' rug. They had a variety of colors and styles, but I knew the black and creme striped rug would be perfect for DIY throw pillows for our home. The rug was thin, the weave gave it a nice texture, the colors were perfect and at $5 I couldn't resist the price. You can't even buy a yard of quality fabric for $5 and this rug was plenty large enough to make not one, but at least two throw pillows. ...

Let's Go Shopping: Walmart Edition
Find out what's new and what caught my eye on my latest Walmart shopping trip. It seems that a trip to Walmart has become a daily occurrence around here. Most of the time, I'm just stopping in to buy more strawberries. I'll pat myself on the back and give myself a high five if I make it out of the store with only the strawberries. Other times, I'm running in for household items and end up easily distracted and wondering the craft and home decor aisles. Let me take you on a little tour of my latest trip and show you what I bought and what caught my eye. Affiliate links have been used. ...

How to Get the Look of Aged Terra Cotta Pots
A quick and easy way to add texture and "age" to terra cotta clay pots. Apparently, my first Monday of the month Dollar Store DIY series is turning into more than a once a month thing. I hope you don't mind. I do have other projects planned, but they involve cutting wood and I'd rather wait until it warms up so I don't freeze in the garage. Until then, I have a large stash of Dollar Tree items that are just begging to be updated. (You can find my 50 favorite Dollar Tree items to hack, makeover and craft with HERE !) Since Dollar Tree now has their spring and garden decor available I thought it would be a good time to share a quick way to age basic terra cotta clay pots. These little rustic pots are perfect for spring, but they also make great everyday decor. ...

The Best Sources For Affordable Faux Plants and Greenery
The best affordable sources for realistic faux trees, plants, wreaths and greenery. I'm back answering another frequently asked question, where I buy affordable and realistic looking faux greenery. I do have a few live plants in my home, but the majority are fake due to my lake of a green thumb. Artificial plants can get a bad wrap in the design world, but they have come a long way and are more lifelike than ever. They're also a great alternative for adding color and life to a room when real plants aren't an option. Today I've rounded up my favorite sources for affordable faux plants, trees, wreaths and stems. I would definitely recommend real over faux, but if you are like me and kill every live plant that comes into your home than faux is the way to go. ...
