The easiest way to make an affordable farmhouse no vacancy sign without fancy cutting machines! Last year I bought a fancy Cricut on Black Friday. Have I used it yet? Umm, no. I'm sure I'll eventually knock off the dust and figure out how to use it, but until then, I'll just keep making signs the 'ole fashion way. It may take more time and effort, but making signs without fancy cutting machines is my favorite (and cheapest!) way to create custom DIY signs. ...

Better Homes and Gardens I Did It Feature
A look back and peek behind the scenes of my Better Homes and Gardens photo shoot! Many of you are aware that back in December of 2017 I made the difficult decision to leave my full-time job to focus on my blog and family. If giving up a large chunk of our families income wasn't scary enough, the fear of failure was even scarier. I've never been shy about my struggles with anxiety and let me tell you, it was a rough couple of months leading up to my last day of work. Would I fail? Was I making the right decision? Is this best for our family? How are we going to survive without my income? So many questions and so many doubts flooded my mind. Then.... Just 2 days after I quit my job I got an e-mail from Kit, the senior project editor at BHG asking if they could come shoot my DIY Crate Lockers ! Being featured in a large magazine has always been a major blogging goal and getting that e-mail was the confirmation I needed. It confirmed that I made the ...

The Perfect Little Black Dresser
A dated and versatile little dresser gets a makeover with black paint and gorgeous brass bin pulls. Hardware provided by House of Antique Hardware Many months ago I came across a small little dresser at Goodwill. It had good bones, dovetail drawers and its petite size made it a perfect versatile piece. Not only would it be great as a dresser, but it would also work well as a nightstand, entry table or even at the end of a hallway. It was the perfect little piece to update with black paint and new brass bin pulls for a quick and easy makeover. ...

Cute and Simple Vintage Quilt Hoop Wreaths
Thrifted, wide block vintage quilt hoops pair with gorgeous faux florals to make cute and simple wreaths. As many times as I've been to Goodwill, craft stores, flea markets and not to mention the countless hours perusing Pinterest I can honestly say, I've never seen embroidery hoops with solid wood block closures. It wasn't until a trip to Goodwill (and a search on Google) that I discovered that these amazing hoops exist and are actually quilt hoops. The ones I found at Goodwill had the perfect vintage charm and I knew right away they would make beautiful wreaths. It just goes to show that you never know what you'll find (or learn) while thrifting. ...

Let's Go Shopping: Opal House Collection at Target
Affordable and beautiful decor from the Opal House collection at Target. I know, I know, I'm totally late to the game on sharing the Opal House collection. I blame it on the fact that I no longer work across the street from a Target, which means my Target trips are few and far between. A good thing for my wallet, but I sure do miss my lunch break shopping runs. It's been a while since I've shopped at Target, but I did stop in about a month ago just after the Opal House collection was released. Out of all the collections at Target, this one is definitely my favorite. I mean you can't go wrong with Threshold or Hearth and Hand by Magnolia, but there's just something about the black and white fabrics, brass accents, wicker chairs and baskets and beautiful jewel tone colors. Let's just say, it was hard to walk out with just a few new pillows and a rattan chair. ...

Simple and Classic Distressed Black Vintage Buffet Makeover
A beautiful vintage Drexel server gets a fresh and classic update with black paint and a natural distressed finish. On one of my many recent Goodwill trips, I came across a beautiful vintage Drexel buffet. The other week I shared what I look for when buying used furniture and this piece checked off all the boxes. It was a fair (not great) price, solid wood, made by a good furniture company and was smoke-free. I quickly headed to the register to snag it before anyone else could. Thankfully, I had my Hylander with me which for once wasn't full of furniture and decor, so I was able to bring it home and work on it right away. This little buffet is a perfect vintage piece and deserved a classic makeover. I kept it simple and went with General Finishes Lamp Black and a naturally distressed look. ...

DIY herb markers using Dollar Tree plant labels and a free herb printable make for the perfect organized herb garden. Happy Monday! Guess what's back, guess what's back??? Dollar Store DIY!!! It wasn't intentional, but somehow I got tied up working on other projects (mainly my ETSY shop ) and my first Monday of the month Dollar Store DIY series took an abrupt halt. Well, now I'm back on track and have a super easy summer project to share. Every year, we plant a garden full of vegetables and a few herbs to keep close to the kitchen. The plant markers at Dollar Tree were the perfect accessory to keep my herbs cute and organized. At $1 for 10 markers and printable labels that were free, these DIY herb markers were also super cheap and easy to make. ...
