Affordable bathroom decor for the perfect vintage modern bathroom makeover!
Were you starting to wonder if our basement bathroom was the only bathroom in our house? We do have two other bathrooms, but I rarely share them on the blog. They were both completely renovated about 10 years ago, but of course, my taste has changed and they're no longer my style. I'd love to renovate them again, but we're currently saving for a major kitchen/first floor renovation, which is leaving little in the budget for bathrooms. Refusing to let that stop me from creating a space I love, I'm planning an affordable vintage modern makeover for our hall bathroom!
I'll be keeping the bathroom makeover affordable by working with the existing wall color, tile, fixtures, vanity and countertop. It's going to take a little trial and error to pull together decor that works with the busy countertop and green mosaic shower tile, but I'm excited to have a new space to decorate.
LIGHTING: My original plan was to update the current brushed nickel light fixture with Gold Leaf Rub 'n Buff then swap out the frosted globes for something a bit more modern. That plan all changed when I went searching for replacement globes only to find out they are either super expensive or still stuck in the 80's. Who knew light fixture globes were so expensive? Thankfully, I have a Home Depot gift and found the perfect modern brass light fixture.
MIRROR: I've always loved the look of rounded rectangular mirrors, but they can be pretty expensive. I was lucky to find an affordable one for our basement bathroom, but unfortunately, it's out of stock and too small for the hall bathroom. After some searching, I did find one on Amazon and with the help of another gift card I was able to snag it for a great price.
BATH RUG: Our hall bathroom requires a larger rug, which has been a bit trickier to find. It's hard enough to find one that's stylish, but to find one that's both stylish AND large enough has been difficult. Luckily, I found a great option at HomeGoods that's the perfect size, color, and pattern!
I'm also going to order this jacquard gray bath mat from CB2. I like the idea of a black and white rug, but I also want to try a solid rug to see if it goes better with the busy countertop.
SHOWER CURTAIN: It's been hard to find the perfect shower curtain/rug combo that coordinates with the dark green and black granite counter. I really like this one that I bought from Target, but I might have to stick with a simple white textured shower curtain or one with cute pom-pom trim.
Here are all three options I considered while out shopping at Target.
ARTWORK: I've had artwork of a sketched nude woman hanging in our bedroom (it's totally clean and appropriate) and I think it will be perfect for the bathroom. I bought it from HomeGoods early last year, but you can find similar art on ETSY.
TOWELS: I kind of have a thing for Turkish towels. I just the love the color, texture and style they bring to a room. I have quite a few already, but I ordered two more styles for the bathroom.
HARDWARE: I splurged on new hardware and ordered these pulls and knobs, but I'm pretty sure they are going to be worth the extra money.
I'm so excited to give our hall bathroom a little refresh and turn it into a space that better represents my style. I don't plan on spending a lot of money, but that doesn't mean I can't create a space I love.
Love the black and brass combo...can't wait to see it finished!
