Add a touch of vintage and a bit of sparkle to inexpensive Dollar Tree ornaments.
It's a new month and time for a brand new Dollar Store DIY!
I have a few holiday projects planned, but today is all about updating simple Dollar Tree ornaments to better fit my style and decor. I combined simple techniques and supplies that I've used in the past to create easy vintage-inspired diamond dust ornaments.

-HOW TO MAKE DOLLAR TREE DIAMOND DUST ORNAMENTS-
Sometimes less is more, which in this case, meant stripping away the color and decorations on 4" Dollar Tree ornaments.
I picked up three ornaments from my local Dollar Tree and although there is nothing wrong with them as is, they just weren't my style.I knew I wanted to tone them down and add a little sparkle and vintage vibe, so I removed the metal ornament tops and burlap that covered the front of the ornaments.
I used fine grit sandpaper to sand the fronts of the ornaments then covered both sides of the ornaments with 2 coats of white chalk paint.
While the second coat of paint was still wet, I sprinkled on a generous amount of diamond dust.
I used the same technique I used on the Dollar Tree industrial jars to "age" the metal ornament tops. Basically, I combined layers of Gold Leaf Rub 'n Buff and Metallic Gunmetal paint to create the perfect aged look.
Once the ornaments and metal tops were dry, I attached the aged metal pieces to each ornament using Rapid Fuse All Purpose Adhesive then finished off the ornaments with vintage ornament hooks.
These DIY Dollar Tree vintage-inspired diamond dust ornaments are perfect for decorating gift boxes or bags (you can write "To" and "From" on the back), trimming a tree and they even make great favors for holiday parties.
WOW! Who knew you could create so many great things from Dollar Tree finds? I love this site/blog! --Cynthia
