An easy way to update an inexpensive and dated wood and metal side table.
Yesterday, I ran to Sweet Clover Barn to finish up a few things then swung in Goodwill on my way home. I wasn't too optimistic about finding furniture, but you never know what you'll find unless you stop and look, right? Unfortunately, there were no good dressers, but I did find a little wood side table that had potential. It was the perfect project piece that I knew I could knock out quickly.
I started working on the table as soon as I got home and was able to give it an update, take pictures and finish the blog post in just a few hours. The makeover was super quick, easy and affordable, which is my favorite kind of project.

The side table was small and had a wood top and metal base, which meant there wasn't much that I had to update.
I simply filled the old hardware holes with wood filler, sanded the wood top with my Ryobi Corner Cat and 100 grit sandpaper, cleaned the wood with Simple Green, applied 2 coats of Fusion Mineral Paint in Coal Black, distressed the sides and edges then sealed the paint with General Finishes Finishing Wax in Satin.
I had a few metal label holder pulls leftover from the apothecary cabinet dresser makeover, which were perfect for the front drawer.
I was able to use leftover paint and hardware, so the only cost of this budget-friendly side table makeover was the actual table. It doesn't get much cheaper than that!
That is absolutely darling!
