Holiday Home Tour 2021: Simple and Neutral Christmas Decor

A simple and neutral Christmas home tour with accents of green and touches of vintage for the perfect timeless look!

Less is more when it comes to my holiday decor this year.

Instead of unpacking my vintage Santas and decking the halls with pops of red, I opted to keep my holiday decor simple and neutral with vintage decor and accents of green.

The bonus to this style of decorating is that it perfectly transitions from Christmas to winter without having to change a single thing!

Let's start with the kitchen.

I loved the look of the small candle ring wreaths on the triple kitchen windows from last year, so I added them to the windows again this year.   I hung the wreaths using command hooks, but ribbon is also a great option if you prefer a fancier look.

The open shelves (which are still unfinished) are one of my favorite places to decorate and display some of my treasured gathered goods.....vintage Whitehall cubist tumblers, sleigh bells and brass deer.

The oversized jingle bells that I updated this year are the perfect vintage-inspired addition to my island.

Do you have a lot of real plants in your home?  Do you struggle with how to incorporate them into your holiday decor?

I moved a few of my real plants onto the cubby in my living room, but the rest of my plants remained in their normal locations.  I simply added holiday decor around the plants then filled in with my favorite faux winter greenery.  If you want to make your houseplants extra festive, try adding ribbon, garland or small lightweight ornaments.  Another great idea is to swap out basic pots and planters for something a little more bright and cheerful.

White kitchen decorated for Christmas

I already shared my Christmas decorated mudroom, but I love the space so much that I couldn't leave it out.

It's decked out for Christmas with a lot of winter greenery and vintage items, yet is still a perfectly functional mudroom.

This year, I splurged and bought myself a faux Christmas tree for the dining room.  I've always wanted a sparse Scandi-inspired tree and this little tree is just what the room needed.

Have you noticed a "theme" in my decor this year?

Apparently, I'm all about bells.

I ordered a bunch of oversized bells wholesale and absolutely love them.  They can be hung, corraled in a vintage box or nested in small candle ring wreaths for the perfect table centerpiece.

Last year, I hung the Farm Fresh Christmas Tree sign on the entryway wall.  This year, I opted for a tone-on-tone look and hung the sign in the dining room.  Using the same sign but changing the location was a simple way to give my home a new look for free.

The entry table is another favorite area of mine to decorate, especially during the holidays.

I used a lot of the same decor as last year, but the addition of vintage snowshoes gave the space a fresh look.

The already neutral color scheme and emerald green accents were a perfect backdrop to transition my bedroom from everyday to holiday decor.

I kept the decor simple by adding real looking greenery to the vintage sign above my bed and a set of mini decorative pine trees to my nightstand.  The decor is subtle yet enough to give my bedroom a Christmas feel.

There's no need to blow your budget on new holiday decor every year.  Simple changes like rotating decor from year to year, incorporating seasonless items, sticking to neutrals and adding just a few new additions can make a big difference in your holiday-decorated home.

  4. I didn't see the emerald throw at the end of your bed in "Shop My Home". Do you have a source for it? Just love that color. I am eating up green -- with Christmas and all the ferns in over-wintering. Thank you.

    1. I'm sorry, it was a thrift store find. It originally came from Crate and Barrel, but they no longer carry it in stock 😔.
