Thrift Store Makeover: Anthropologie Inspired Black and White Wall Hooks

Turn a basic thrift store find into the perfect Anthropologie-inspired black and white porcelain wall hooks!

Are you an Anthropologie fan?

Anthropologie is usually out of my budget, but I love visiting their website for inspiration for home decor.  One day while browsing, I came across black and white porcelain and metal wall hooks.

Unfortunately, they're no longer available, but at $18 a pop, they were more than I wanted to spend anyway.  I also knew I could easily recreate the look using a thrift store find.

I patiently kept the hooks in mind and eventually found ones of identical size and shape to the Anthropologie inspiration!

SUPPLIES NEEDED TO CREATE BLACK AND WHITE STRIPED WALL HOOKS

- Metal and porcelain wall hooks (I found mine at Goodwill)
- Small craft brush
- Small foam brush

STEP ONE: PREP HOOKS FOR PAINTING

To transform the white hooks into the Antrho hooks I removed the white porcelain pieces from the metal hooks and then washed and dried them well.

STEP TWO: APPLY FROG TAPE

Cut the frog tape into small even strips then carefully wrap it around each porcelain knob.  Press the edges of the frog tape firmly onto the knob to help reduce bleed-through.  I just eyeballed the spacing, but if you want to be more specific you can measure the placement of each stripe.

STEP THREE: PAINT

Carefully apply two to three coats of black enamel paint to each knob.  Allow the last coat of paint to almost dry then carefully peel away each piece of frog tape.  If paint bleeds through the tape, carefully scrap it off with your nail or sharp edge.

STEP FOUR: SEAL KNOBS

Apply one to two coats of Minwax Polyurethane to each porcelain knob for added protection and durability.  Allow to dry overnight then attach knobs back to the metal hooks.

I also added a little Gold Leaf Rub 'n Buff to the metal hooks to give them an aged look.

I hung the two striped porcelain hooks to the mudroom wall and have kept them there ever since.

They aren't perfect, but you can't beat $1.50 a hook instead of $18.00!

    1. Thanks Ariean! I can't believe your hooks fell apart! As expensive as they are I would have at least expected them to last. I'm crossing my fingers that mine don't break!

  11. Unbelievable! Love a great knockoff and those hooks are perfect. I like that they're sort of "dressy" and you could put them anywhere you were trying to be organized and still make the area look "Good"-- no pun intended!!!!!
